Economy solution? New Tax

With the current economic crisis, and the need for funding.... Here's a thought:

Let's start taxing churches.

It's become obvious that most of them don't fall under "non-profit" organizations anymore. Recall the debacles with all the TV preachers who were living the high-life on the income of the church? I suspect that if all those financially successful churches had to start paying taxes on that money, we'd have the deficit handled in short order.
