At the foundation of our ills, I believe, is our legislative system, which is clogged and fettered and even destroyed by greed and by lobbyists and special interest groups that have become far too powerful in that process. The very people who make our laws to exact beneficial change for all of us, cannot do so honestly because there is too much conflict of interest. We are all familiar with the mistrust that goes along with those who represent us on Capitol Hill.
The solutions must be put in place by the government, but this process begins, as it always has, with the PEOPLE.
As this project grows (it is, at this writing, in its infancy), I hope to have think-tank meetings in my local community, where we can get together and discuss ideas for getting America back on track. I also hope to compile all the ideas that will eventually come out of this Coalition of Citizens, and publish that as well--with the hope that some of the politicos and policy makers and other Persons of Power might read it, take it seriously, and maybe consider some options that weren't considered before. Maybe if the Powers That Be knew how the PEOPLE really felt about the salient issues of the day, and what they might actually suggest as solutions--maybe it will get us all somewhere for once, besides the unemployment line and the poorhouse.
Most people don't have enough time to explore issues, search for answers and study the subjects they would need to in order to understand all the complicated morass of issues and details that government can involve, and that the electoral process rests upon. That's where strength in numbers can make a difference. Many knowledgeable people offer their insights in blogs just like this one, and for that, i am so thankful. But I want to bring those ideas together in one spot. One of us may not know all the answers; but ten or a hundred or a thousand of us, just might be able to come up with solutions by communicating and examining those issues periodically. Not everyone can be "idea people" but there are plenty if those types out there, and these are the ones i speak to, now. It could be as simple as getting together over coffee with a few friends and discussing the ills of this nation, and how we might make things better for everyone; then recording the ideas that the group comes up with and sharing them on this site or others like it.
I am planning to relocate in December to Colorado, and I fully intend to start a group to do just that. I hope that those of you who enjoy debating, discussing issues and creating solutions will join me in this effort from your own communities.
But for starters, here on this blog, I will be posting about specific issues and encouraging comments from anyone who feels they have something to contribute to this goal.
Perhaps this project will be perceived as naive or hopeless by some. But I'm perfectly fine with taking my chances on that one.
"Whenever the people are well informed, they can be trusted with their own government; that whenever things get so far wrong as to attract their notice, they may be relied on to set them to rights." ~Thomas Jefferson
